Barcodes play a vital role in data collection strategies. Not only are they used to gather information about inventory, supply chain, and sales activity, but the latest generation of barcodes (in a common form of 1d & 2d) are also being deployed to learn more about customer behavior and preferences.<\/p>\n

Barcodes already laid their existence into Oracle via Oracle Warehouse Management Cloud under the feature of Label Designer in Price Labels.<\/p>\n

This blog mainly discusses the simple approach of incorporating the concept of barcodes into Oracle HCM-related and other Oracle BI Reports by implementing some of the minute configurations under \u201cAdministration >> Manage BI Publisher >> Font Mappings\u201d of Reports & Analytics.<\/p>\n

What is Oracle BI Reporting?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Reporting, powered by Oracle BI Publisher (formerly known as XML Publisher), is a comprehensive enterprise reporting solution designed to streamline the creation and generation of reports and forms. A key feature of Oracle BI Publisher is its ability to separate the data extraction process from the report layout, making it easier to manage and customize reports.<\/p>\n

With Oracle BI Reporting, users can design and create report layout templates using widely available desktop applications like Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. The solution then renders XML data based on these templates to produce reports in various formats such as PDF, RTF, Excel, and HTML, and supports multiple languages.<\/p>\n

This powerful reporting approach reduces the need for constant report maintenance and allows business users to modify report templates independently, without relying on IT resources. Oracle BI Reporting enhances efficiency, enabling organizations to generate timely, accurate reports that meet their unique business requirements<\/p>\n

Oracle BI Reports | Incorporating Barcodes via RTF & Administration Setup<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Step 1:<\/strong> Create an RTF Template<\/strong><\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Generate an RTF Template by loading exported XML data from the Data Model<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Step 2:<\/strong> Upload Barcode Font<\/strong><\/h3>\n
      \n
    • A 3-of-9 barcode font format with the extension of .ttf (TrueType Font file) is downloaded as a compressed zip folder from any web browser.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • From the downloaded folder, click on \u201c3 of 9 Barcode Regular\u201d TrueType Font file. Click on \u201cInstall\u201d button as shown in the reference image.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        • The 3 of 9 Barcode Regular .ttf file gets installed within the folder \u201cFonts\u201d of the following path \u201cThis PC >> Local Disk (C:) >> Windows >> Fonts\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          • The font style \u201c3 of 9 Barcode\u201d starts getting displayed in all the Windows Microsoft Applications as soon as it is uploaded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Step 3: Select and Save<\/strong><\/h3>\n
              \n
            • To select the field in which the barcode is to be printed, change its font to “3 of 9 Barcode”. Save the changes in the Rich Text Format (.rtf) file<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Step-4: Create BI Report<\/strong><\/h3>\n

              • Log in to Oracle Fusion HCM Application,<\/li>\n
              • Navigation:<\/strong> Tools >> Reports & Analytics >> Browse Catalog<\/li>\n
              • The layout for the report is created by tagging it to the exact data model and is made to run to check the output of the report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                • Oops, the barcode is not printed in the selected field of the RTF file that we created report with!! Barcode will not get printed directly into the report. To achieve it, we need to perform the following setup in BI Administration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  Step-5: Setup BI Administration for incorporating Barcode into reports<\/strong><\/h3>\n
                    \n
                  • Click on the Person Account icon in the right corner & Select Administration. Click on \u201cManage Publisher<\/strong>\u201d under the Publisher option and select \u201cFont Mappings<\/strong>\u201d option under Runtime Configuration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    • Upload the similar TrueType Font file of \u201c3 of 9 Barcode Regular.ttf\u201d file which we installed earlier in Windows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                      • Click on \u201cAdd Font mapping\u201d and add the below mentioned details.<\/li>\n
                      • Base font name \u201c3 of 9 Barcode\u201d, this name must match with the font name selected in MS Word.<\/li>\n
                      • Select “Target Font Type” to be TrueType and “Target Font” as 3 of 9 Barcode.ttf from the drop-down list.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                          Step-6: Check Report for Barcode Generation by re-running the report<\/strong><\/h3>\n

                          • After the completion of all the setups in BI Administration, the report is made to run again and this time, the barcode will be displayed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                            • The generated barcode in the report can be decrypted with the help of a Barcode scanner by the Payroll Administrator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                              Prerequisite:<\/h2>\n

                              • Font name in BI font mapping must match with MS Word font name.<\/li>\n
                              • “3 of 9 Barcode” format is supported only if the exact .ttf file is uploaded into Oracle and select \u201c3 of 9 Barcode Regular.ttf\u201d in target font.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
